Privacy Policy

FlexFinder by Snowhow (formerly Skiglede) — Altitude Management AS — Last updated: 26 September 2026

This policy covers the FlexFinder iPhone app. That includes version 1.0.4, which is still called Skiglede on your phone and in the App Store. It describes what the app does today.

The Short Version

• FlexFinder has no accounts. We never ask for your name or email.
• The app sends us data only when you save a rating after a run in Manual Mode. Recording runs, and everything in Auto Mode, sends nothing.
• What it sends carries a random device ID. We cannot see who you are, but the ratings from one phone can be linked together. That makes it personal data, and you have rights over it.
• Your GPS position and route stay on your phone. We never receive coordinates.
• We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.

What FlexFinder Does

FlexFinder is a ski boot flex finder. While you ski, it uses your phone's GPS and motion sensors to measure how you ski, then works out the boot flex index that gives you the support you need. The calculation happens on your phone.

What Stays on Your Phone

These are stored only on your iPhone, in the app's own files. They are never sent to us:

• What you enter. Height, weight, ski radius, your current boot flex, and the skiing level you chose.
• Your measured runs. For each run: the time, your speed, and a short summary of the motion sensor readings.
• Your run route (Auto Mode only). For each run: the start and end point, and a simplified route of about 20 GPS points with the altitude and speed at each point.
• Your ratings. A copy of each rating you save (see below).
• Saved results. If you save a result, the name you type for it and that result. The name never leaves your phone.

“New Skier / Retest” clears your measured runs and routes. You can delete saved results from the Saved list. Deleting the app deletes all of this. If you back up your iPhone, these files are included in that backup like other app data.

What We Receive, and When

In Manual Mode, after a run, the app asks “How did this run feel?”. If you tap Save, it sends us:

• Your height and weight
• Your speed on that run
• Your ski radius
• Your current boot flex, the flex index the app calculated, and the difference between the two
• Your rating (flex index too low / just right / too high) and any note you type
• The skiing level you chose when you set up the app
• A random device ID. Apple creates it for each app maker. It changes only if you delete all apps from the same maker from your phone and install again.
• Your phone's region setting (for example “NO”) and the app's build number
• The date and time you saved the rating. Our server adds the time it arrived.

If you tap Cancel, nothing is sent. Nothing else is sent: no coordinates, no route, no motion sensor data. Please do not put your name or other personal details in the note.

We are changing this. The next version of the app will ask you before it sends anything, and sharing will be off until you switch it on. We will update this page when that version is released.

An earlier version of this page described this data as anonymous and said it could not be deleted. That was not correct. Because each record carries the device ID, it counts as personal data, and we can find and delete your records if you ask (see Your Rights).

Why We Use It

Only to check and improve the flex model: to see whether the flex index FlexFinder suggests matches how the boot actually felt. We do not use it for advertising, we do not build a profile of you, and it has no effect on the result the app shows you.

While our legal review of this data is under way, we keep it but do not use it to improve the flex model.

Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in checking and improving the flex model (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). We keep the data limited: no name, no email, no coordinates. You can object at any time (see Your Rights).

Location, Motion and Notifications

FlexFinder asks iOS for location access “Always”. iOS first lets you choose “Allow While Using App” or “Allow Once” instead. The reason we ask for more is Auto Mode:

• Manual Mode. GPS runs from the moment you start recording until you stop.
• Auto Mode. GPS keeps running in the background so the app can find your runs while your phone is in your pocket. iOS shows the location indicator while this happens. GPS stops when you stop Auto Mode or when the app has measured the runs it needs.

Location is used on your phone to measure speed and altitude, to tell runs from lift rides, and (in Auto Mode) to keep the simplified route of each run. As described above, your position and route stay on your phone.

Motion access (accelerometer, gyroscope and barometer) is used only while a run is being measured. The raw readings are reduced on your phone to a short summary, which is kept on your phone. The raw readings are not stored.

In Auto Mode the app also asks to show you a notification when your result is ready. The notification is created on your phone; we do not send it.

Where the Data Is Stored, and Who Handles It

The data the app sends is received and stored by Netlify, Inc., the company that hosts snowhow.ski. Netlify is based in the USA, so the data is stored and processed outside Norway and the EEA. Contact us if you want details of how this transfer is safeguarded. Access to the stored data is restricted to us and protected by a secret access key; Netlify stores it on our behalf.

Like any web server, Netlify sees your phone's IP address when the data arrives. We do not store the IP address with your data.

We do not share your data with boot brands, retailers, advertisers or data brokers.

How Long We Keep It

We have not yet set a fixed retention period. Until we do, we keep the data for as long as we need it to check the flex model, and you can ask us to delete yours at any time. We will publish a fixed period on this page after our legal review. Data on your phone stays until you clear it or delete the app.

Your Rights

Under the GDPR you can ask us to:

• see the data we hold from your phone (access),
• correct it,
• delete it,
• restrict how we use it, or
• stop using it (objection).

Email bernt@snowhow.ski. Because we do not know who you are, we need a way to find your records. Tell us roughly when you saved your ratings, your region, and the height and weight you entered. Any note you typed helps too. We will do our best to find them, and we reply within one month.

If you think we handle your data wrongly, you can complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority, Datatilsynet. We would appreciate the chance to put it right first.

The Website

snowhow.ski sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking scripts. Netlify, our host, processes your IP address to deliver the pages. Most pages load their fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser also connects to Google, which receives your IP address.

What We Do Not Do

• No accounts, no login, no name or email.
• No analytics, advertising or tracking tools in the app.
• No coordinates or routes sent from your phone.
• No selling of data.

Children

We do not knowingly receive data from children under 13. If you are a parent and think your child has sent us data, email us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

If we change this policy, we will post the new version here and update the date at the top.
